Description
FACT is a web-based tool designed to facilitate the filing of a form required by the PCAOB, aimed at improving transparency regarding the engagement partner and other accounting firms involved in issuer audits. The project is a legacy system that has been live for many years with an outdated technology stack and no previous design.
Timeline
6 months from briefing to final MVP
Problem

Solution / Redesign
How might we modernize a legacy web tool to streamline the form-filing process for engagement team members while ensuring transparency and ease of validation for partners?
I designed a guided workflow where completing a form follows a logical order, includes proper validation, and clearly indicates the current step and the number of steps remaining.

Form
Transformed a multi-step process with numerous technical terms into an intuitive, single-URL form where the workflow feels natural.
Summary
Summarizing all the changes a user made in the form to provide a complete overview of the information they entered and highlighting the fields that were changed to track those requests and draw attention to them.
Design System
Using EY's Motif Design System and working with pre-built components and elements, we ensured the delivery of a consistent system that resembles other internal tools.
Process
The process of this redesign included research to define all the user personas with their most common workflows, establishing a general flow, auditing the current design, and finally creating a design roadmap and executing the design.
Research & Planning
I investigated who are the main users. The main user, typically an engagement team member, accepts an issuer profile to ensure its accuracy, reviews information about other participating accounting firms and group audit hours, and notifies the Partner in Charge when the information is ready for validation and approval.

Audit current design
The priority was clear: I needed to audit the design, provide high-level design recommendations based on internal brand consistency and usability heuristics, and take these insights into account when creating the final design mockups.
Design & Prototyping
Completed an MVP for the Engagement Team user, redesigning completely the initial page (Issuer and Forms dashboard) and the Form AP. I used EY's design system for brand consistency, as this is an internal tool.

Impact
Here, the outcomes and achievements of the project are highlighted, including leadership and team collaboration made efficiently.
Helping developers
navigate blockers
My main focus became helping developers navigate blockers to implement a restyled, modern design within technical limits. By working closely with them, I ensured key design elements were preserved, delivering a refreshed interface despite the system’s limitations. This experience underscored the impact of collaborative problem-solving in transforming legacy tools.
EY's Design System
and brand style
Used company’s Design System to ensure brand consistency and a cohesive user experience.
